Hello, I’m Millie, the artist and instructor behind ROOTS - Watercolour.
Since 2019, I have taught transparent watercolour through both in-person and online classes, supporting thousands of students at different stages of their creative journeys.
Many students arrive with no previous painting experience. Others have tried learning independently but have lost confidence because of water control, muddy colour or paintings that did not turn out as expected. I believe painting is about more than producing a “perfect” finished piece. It can also give us a reason to slow down, observe the world more carefully and enjoy a quiet moment of creativity.
Even when you have never painted before, you can begin with the foundations and gradually create work that feels personal and meaningful.

Yes. Begin with the Getting Ready series to learn about materials, water control, brushwork, colour mixing and the characteristics of transparent watercolour. You can then continue with the Level 1 or beginner-friendly projects.
No. Each class includes recommended materials, but you can often use similar colours and tools that you already own. The lessons explain the purpose of the supplies so you can choose options that suit your needs and budget.
No. These are self-paced online lessons that you can watch and practise according to your own schedule.
Lesson length and project difficulty vary. You do not need to complete a class in one sitting. Pause the video and divide the painting into sections that fit your schedule.
Yes. While you have active access to the membership content, you can return to included classes to pause, replay and repeat the exercises.
Don't worry! Watercolour results are affected by your water level, paint, paper, room conditions and individual brushwork. Natural differences are expected. The lessons help you evaluate the technique rather than requiring every painting to look identical.
Absolutely! You can submit questions and share your work through Patreon DM/designated member community. Including a photograph and information about your paper, paint and process will make it easier to provide relevant guidance.
There is no fixed learning schedule. You can move through the library at your own pace. Even completing a small section each week will gradually build experience and confidence.
